The Woodstock Choralaires are welcoming a new music director ahead of a traditionally busy season.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Choralaires have a new music director. Geoff Warder is taking over after his predecessor Douglas Shippey stepped down after 20 years of service.
Warder tells Heart FM he feels very humble coming into his new position.
"I have a job to do which is the musical director so I pick music, I rehearse the music, and I get the group going. But the members really do take an ownership of it which I think is great because it really does make it a community type choir."
Warder has been a recording engineer, composer, college professor, church organist, and choir director in the past. He tells Heart FM about his upcoming Choralaires debut.
"We do a Christmas Concert which this year is December 10th. We do a show in the afternoon and then a show in the evening so we do the same show twice. That will be my first appearance with the choir."
The Choralaires will also have a special concert in late April that will shine a light on Canada's 150th birthday. On top of that they also have offers to perform at smaller church concerts in the area.
The Woodstock Choralaires celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2016 and they have approximately 60 performers.
