2 out of 3 immigrants to Canada have a post secondary education, and it would be vital to Oxford County to utilize the skills possessed by newcomers. That was the message from Jeff Surridge, CEO of Community Employment Services, during a presentation Wednesday to County Council. One of the strategy's to promote immigration to the area is a brand new web portal. The portal will feature testimonials from newcomers that have had positive experiences in Oxford. Surridge said "Another priority includes development in the business community, so we understand where their labour and skill shortages will be so we can target newcomers to those opportunities." Council heard that Oxford County possesses a wide variety of programs to help newcomers to the area including: ESL programs, housing supports, and support with health care.
