The new soccer fields in Norwich should be ready just in time for Minor Soccer season in late May.
NORWICH - Kids in Norwich Township will be able to play on new soccer fields this coming spring.
The fields will be on about 4.5 acres surrounding the municipal offices on the south end of Norwich.
Optimist Member Mike Legge tells Heart FM about the $400,000 project.
"The long term plan was to put in three different fields on this land. Fairly expensive project that would include bleachers, fencing and an exercise trail."
In order to make this project more affordable it has been divided up into phases.
Legge describes the work that is being done over the next couple of weeks.
"There's been a lot of trees removed and some levelling of the ground a bit. There will be a lot of work done probably over the next two to three weeks just to prep all the land and it looks like we might get some sod put down in one area."
The first phase will cost anywhere between $50,000 to $60,000.
The goal is to have the fields ready in time for soccer season in late May, and add onto them as the Norwich Minor Soccer Club and the Norwich Optimist Club raise more money.
The Optimist Club will be holding a Chili Cook-Off on November 5th with some of the proceeds going towards the fields. Minor Soccer is also planning a big New Years Eve fundraiser, which will take place at the Community Centre.
