Matt Smith will become the CAO for Norwich Township on April 7th.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - We now know who will be the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Norwich Township.
Matt Smith will step into the CAO position as of April 7th and he's excited to start his new job.
"I’m thrilled to be joining the talented team at the Township of Norwich. I want to thank Council for the opportunity to serve the Norwich community, and look forward to working with Council and staff to deliver excellent service to our residents and help the community meet its vision for the future."
Smith previously worked for the Municipality of Meaford as the Clerk & Director of Community Services, even stepping in as the Interim CAO in 2023 and 2024.
With 20 years of experience in the public sector under his belt, Norwich Mayor Jim Palmer believes Smith will be a great addition to the Township.
"On behalf of Council, I am happy to welcome Matt as our new Chief Administrative Officer“ Following a comprehensive search, Council and I are confident that Matt’s passion for community development and open municipal governance will align with Council’s Strategic Plan, and help guide the Township to continued growth and success. We would also like to extend our gratitude to James Johnson, who has performed the role of Acting CAO admirably during the transition period."
He stepped into the role in early December 2024, after it was revealed that Lee Robinson was no longer working for the Township.
The Chief Administrative Officer is the senior staff member to a municipality. They oversee all municipal operations and report directly to the municipal council.
