OXFORD COUNTY - OPP are reminding drivers to plan ahead for New Year's Eve parties.
The OPP are asking everyone to use common sense tonight.
The Oxford OPP are hoping for a quieter year than last year - Constable Stacey Culbert remembers 50 calls in 24 hours.
"A lot of those calls are alcohol related, tying up the use of emergency services with 9-1-1 hang ups, calls made in error, disturbing the peace, we had to take someone to the hospital because they had passed out on the sidewalk. We're just asking people to act responsibly."
Even though they are hoping for less calls this year, they do want to hear from anyone who notices anything suspicious as it will be a busy night.
"Last year alone we received several complaints from people about suspected impaired drivers. The OPP would like to say we'll be on every roadway at any given time, but that's not the case. So we do rely a lot on the public's help. So if you do suspect anybody or notice anything suspicious just give us a call."
Overall Culbert says moderation is key - plan a safe ride home before leaving, anticipate spending the night, or make sure you have the number of a taxi company handy.
