A special day is planned to bring awareness to organ and tissue donation through a short walk and special guest speakers.
WOODSTOCK - You can hear how important organ and tissue donation is from people who have been directly impacted by it at a special walk.
The 6th Annual Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Walk is coming up at Southside Park.
Volunteer with the walk Joanna Mitchell says this a chance to hear just how much organ and tissue donation can change lives.
"It's just a demonstration of what an amazing thing you can do by making the decision to donate your organs after you pass away. And we're just encouraging people as well to register their wishes to be an organ donor at BeADonor.ca"
They will have special guest speakers who have received donations as well as family members from people who have donated. Mitchell says there is one very special speaker:
"Danah Bozek whose daughter Addison was killed at the Costco a couple of years ago, and Addison donated four organs and saved four lives with her donation."
The walk itself is not strenuous - Mitchell says its all about awareness and there is no fundraising component.
"It's a short walk about 10 minutes. After we have our speakers and our walk Boston Pizza has donated pizza and we do our draw prizes, and there's music. It's really informal; just getting the word out there that organ tissue donation saves lives."
It's taking place at Southside Park on May 28th with registration starting at 10:30 a.m.
