The Oxford Attack is hoping to build on the success of their first two OBA sanctioned tournaments from last year.
The Oxford Attack Basketball Club is gearing up for another season of OBA travel basketball.
They plan on having at least 12 boys and girls travel teams this year. Vice President and head coach of a couple of teams Paul Cowan tells Heart FM the Attack is travel basketball and similar to the rep hockey programs in Woodstock.
"So ideally our dream some day would be to offer a boys and girls team from U10, which is grade 4, all the way to U19 which is grade 12 and victory lap. We are getting there - our club has grown significantly. This year we may offer up to 12 or 13 travel teams with different age groups. We are certainly growing and basketball is growing in popularity in Oxford County and Woodstock."
Cowan says the Attack teams have fared pretty well over the past couple of years in OBA basketball and are a force to be reckoned with. The U10 to U14 teams are just starting now and the High School age leagues will start when their season is over. Cowan says they are excited to host a few more tournaments this year.
"Last year we hosted our very first two sanctioned tournaments within the Ontario Basketball Association - we had teams coming from all over the province, they stayed overnight in Woodstock, and they competed in the sanctioned tournaments with medals and awards. We hope to host 3 to 4 sanctioned tournaments for various age groups within our club this year, again further putting our club on the map provincially and getting Oxford County recognized."
