"Canadians want real action, not over promises funded by their credit cards." - Oxford MP Arpan Khanna
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County's Conservative Member of Parliament is not happy with the federal budget.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled the budget in the House of Commons yesterday, and it includes $535 billion in spending and a deficit of $39.8 billion.
She said it would unlock the door to the middle class for millions of younger Canadians, but Oxford MP Arpan Khanna does not agree.
"This budget does nothing for the everyday Canadian when they face grocery unaffordability or high interest rates when they renew their mortgage. The Canadian dream is slipping away, and Canadians want real action, not over promises funded by their credit cards."
He adds something needs to be done regarding the carbon tax.
"On April 1st, the Liberals hiked the carbon tax 23 percent, resulting in higher food production costs and higher food costs for families in Oxford and across the country, real consequences of this government's carbon tax. This budget failed to pass or address Bill C-234, which would bring down the high cost of food production for our farmers, who could pass along those savings to families at the grocery store."
The Opposition Conservatives will not be supporting this budget.
