Residents got a sneak peak at the potential trail expansion at Pittock Park.
WOODSTOCK - It was a packed house at the Public Meeting hosted by the City of Woodstock to gather feedback from the community about a potential trail expansion.
The discussion about possibly expanding the trail systems in the friendly city with an ultimate goal of creating an actual loop around Pittock to Innerkip Road and on both sides of the Thames River to Highway 2. Director of Parks and Recreation Brian Connors tells Heart FM talks are ongoing.
"We are in negotiations with the Upper Thames Conservation Authority to do a land management agreement where the City of Woodstock would acquire either through purchase or a long term lease some of the land around the Pittock Reservoir."
Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM it was great to see the public support for the project at the public meeting.
"Wonderful opportunity to make improvements to this trail and enter these discussions with the Upper Thames Conversation Authority, and also know that we have citizen support and many community groups who want to work along with us to accomplish this, it can be a jewel that can be enjoyed not only by our citizens but as tourism industry for the region."
Birtch says they did address some concerns about garbage.
"I implore all citizens to use the receptacles and recycle bins that we provide and for the neighbouring property owners north of Pittock we will make sure that at any entrance to the trail that there is facilities for people to drop off there stuff and as my children learn in school, be kind to the environment."
Several councillors were in attendance at the public meeting and the issue will be brought back to council at a later date
