South West Oxford's Mayor believes 2016 was a very good year for the township.
SWOX - When it comes to looking back on 2016 in South West Oxford, the mayor believes it is the community that really stands out.
It looks like they will round out the year with a surplus, with lower costs in winter maintenance and fewer calls than expected for emergency services.
Mayor David Mayberry says what stands out the most is how the community was able to rally together for the reconstruction of Lowville Pond.
"The community got together, we told them this is how much money you're going to have to pay then we realized we had misquoted or it would cost more than we had intended and we went back and said now you have to pay more, and the community didn't get upset, they simply raised more money and paid for it."
As Mayberry looks forward, there is one large project that stands out for 2017.
"Of course the biggest project this year for the township will be building the new Emergency Services building in Beachville. We've had a lot of consultations not just with the public, with the community group that's help us to design that, but with the emergency personnel and the contractor."
