Province Announces More Child Care for Essential Workers and Free iPads for Low Income Students

The Province is expanding the list of essential workers who can access free child care, they are also going to give students from low income families free iPads and Ford is looking to ensure that students will graduate this year.

ONTARIO - Ontario Premier made a couple important announcements today regarding child care for essential workers, getting all students access to computers and he talked about making sure our children graduate this year.

Doug Ford says he issued an emergency order last night, offering child care services to even more of our essential workers.

"That includes providing child care for those who work in group homes, homeless shelters, child welfare and women and you shelters, it also includes power workers, water and waste water workers, those manufacturing our drug and medical supplies, our RCMP officers, our Canada Post workers and our Canadian Border Service agency officers, because looking after their kids, while they look after us is just one small way of recognizing their sacrifice."

Ford also announced measures to make sure all of our kids are doing online learning.

"We have worked out a new partnership between Apple, Rogers and our Ontario School Boards. We are purchasing iPads at discounted prices for students in need, these iPads will have free wireless data and will help students from low income families continue their learning at home safely during this pandemic."

Ford was also asked if students will be able to return to school before June.

"As I have always said right from the get go, we are going to determine when we open it based on health and science and that is going to be for all of our decisions moving forward. As of yet, the Medical Officer of Health hasn't mentioned it. I know the Education Minister and myself our number one concern is to make sure kids graduate this year, that is our main concern, health number 1 and then right after that is making sure our kids graduate."
