OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health issued a public health notice regarding unusual substances in the Elgin County drug supply.
They have received anecdotal reports of battery acid being laced in with cocaine in Elgin County. They have also received reports of an unknown additive being mixed with Crystal Meth causing psychosis type behaviours and symptoms in users.
Public Health partners have also had reports of purple fentanyl circulating in Toronto and London that is causing unusual side effects. The drugs may be mixed with novel benzodiazepine and the side effects include an increase in overdoses and severe sedation.
In Case of Overdose:
- Call 911.
- Give naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspected (it may take more than one dose). Please note that the sedation effect of the benzodiazepine will not response to naloxone.
- Stay with and assist the person until paramedics arrive.
- The person should go to the hospital with the paramedics for further treatment.
If You Use Substances:
- Don't use alone.
- Avoid mixing substances.
- Start with a small amount first.
- Carry a naloxone kit.
