Railway Safety

A pair of teens cautioned after walking across railway tracks while lights flashed and barriers were down

INGERSOLL  - Disobeying a railway crossing signal or gate could land you with a $110 fine and three demerit points.

This comes after a pair of teens were spotted crossing on foot after the lights had been activated and the safety crossing barrier had come down at Mutual Street in Ingersoll Wednesday afternoon.

The girls were cautioned by OPP and officers spoke with their parents.

OPP would like to remind the public of the need to use extra caution when entering any and all railroad crossings, either on foot or in a vehicle as there are many crossings throughout the county some with visible barriers and many others with signage only.

Charges under The Highway Traffic Act that can apply include: Disobey railway crossing signal at railway crossing and Disobey crossing gate.

Both offences carry a $110 fine and three demerit points.
