It's one of the only buildings in Oxford Centre to have survived the tornado of 1979, but will it survive the test of time? A group has come together to try and raise money to refurbish the Oxford Centre Pioneer Rooms. The former School House, Library and Council Chambers was originally built in 1872, but needs to be brought up to current accessibility standards to continue to operate as a community meeting centre. Wayne Buchanan of the Friends of Pioneer Rooms explains how much that might cost. "We anticipate right now, it's going to be around 30-thousand dollars. Of course, like most projects, they can easily be added to. We're hoping to raise the money from the township, from community donations, as well as funding from various grants we hope to apply for." The priority is upgrading the front entrance and washrooms to meet accessibility standards. New windows, a kitchen, electrical system and other upgrades are also in the plans.
