Former Mayor of Ingersoll Michael Hennessy has passed away at the age of 95.
INGERSOLL - A former mayor of Ingersoll has passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday.
Michael Hennessy served two terms as a councillor and two terms as the Mayor for the Town of Ingersoll in the 90's. He also served as a mentor to current Mayor Ted Comiskey. The two met when Comiskey was 14 years old when he encouraged him to enter a speech contest through the Optimist Club. Comiskey says he is really going to miss his friend.
"Since then we have been very close friends. He was a terrific man, if I had one word to describe Mike Hennessy, it would be a gentlemen, to know him was to like him."
Comiskey says he was very smart and cared deeply about the Town and his family.
"He was well read, he could talk about many subjects, he was a manager of plants, a teacher, head of business at Fanshawe, he was a councillor, a mayor and he was on multiple different committee's not only for Ingersoll but for the County. He was a hard worker, a great family man. He has two terrific boys, it was a good true family. His strongest supporter was certainly his wife of 67 years Daphne and she is also a terrific and great person. I will miss him dearly."
Hennessy was also named the 2004 citizen of the year for the Town of Ingersoll. You can find more information and read his obituary online here.
