Oxford county is gearing up for another year of holiday parades.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tis the holiday season, and all through the land, parades are coming, and some have a band.
This weekend kicks off the annual Santa Clause Parades across Oxford County. Saturday three parades are rolling down the streets in Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock. Ingersoll begins the day at 11 A.M, Santa visits Tillsonburg at 2 P.M and finally heads to Woodstock for the annual night parade at 6 P.M.
The tradition of a night parade in Woodstock is long-standing, says 14 year parade marshall and Lion's Club member Jerry Acchione. He says the Lion's Club has come together year after year to help make the parade a resounding success. He credits the huge turnouts to the uniqueness of the night parade, and the effort that goes into decorating when the lights come on.
This year's parade features 95 entires, including 9 bands. One of the bands in the parade is the award winning Burlington Teen Tour Band of Burlington, Ontario, who will be marching just in front of Santa. "Don't be leaving early," cautions Acchione, "they are always great."
Volunteers will be walking along the parade route to collect donations of money, as well as canned goods forlocal charities.
The parade leaves from the Woodstock fairgrounds, takes a right turn onto Dundas Street, and continues to Vansittart Ave.
