DASO and Ingamo Homes will launch a podcast and a series of workshops about gender based violence.
OXFORD COUNTY - A provincial Trillium Grant was given out to Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) and Ingamo Family Homes so they can to add to their gender based violence programming.
The two shelters are adding new initiatives to what they are calling the "Can We Talk About That" campaign. The first one is a podcast where they will talk to experts about what gender based violence is, what to do about it, and what support is available. Fundraising and Communications Coordinator, Sophie Foster says the second part of the initiative is workshops.
"We are doing 3 workshops, but we are going to be doing them repeatedly, through four municipalities in Oxford County. So it will be Woodstock, Tillsonburg, Norwich, and Ingersoll."
They plan to do the three classes in each municipality, and each class will have a different topic.
"The first one is all about healthy relationships and communication, The second workshop is all about spotting the signs, so warning signs, red flags, but also how do we intervene if we see something maybe at the grocery store or at a bar and then the third is all about raising kids and teaching them about healthy relationships and maybe how to stay away from gender based violence or how avoid it."
The first one will be at Cowan Park, Woodstock, on April 28th starting at 5:30 p.m. The other two are set for the following Mondays, before the workshops move to the next municipality. The classes will be 2 hours each, and dinner will be provided to guests.
