Plan ahead and arrive alive. That's the message coming from police as we enter the holiday season. Woodstock Police kicked off their annual RIDE campaign with their first RIDE program Tuesday night at Dundas and Finkle St. This year, Constable Steve McEwen says they were joined by high school students from CASS. "We thought we'd pair up and kick it off and let everybody know that they're here, and we're here in support of sober driving." One of those students, Brittany Beatty was out at the RIDE program, also representing Students Against Impaired Driving. "Seeing how we're partnering with them, it also helps our message and also shows that teens are wanting to put an end to drunk driving." McEwen says there's no excuse for drinking and driving. "Think before you drink. If you're going to a party, plan ahead. A designated driver, a taxi, especially here in the city you can take a taxi anywhere at a reasonable cost, so there's really no reason to drink and drive." Expect to see plenty more RIDE programs across the province, as police screen for impaired drivers all the way through New Years celebrations.
