Everyone is invited to Goff Hall tonight for a public meeting about suicide prevention hosted by the City.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is hosting a public meeting to talk about mental health and suicide prevention.
A number of youth suicides have occurred in Woodstock in the past couple of months and the meeting will look at prevention and possible actions the City can take. Councillor Shawn Shapton made the call for the meeting and has gotten full support from council.
"I just want to thank all of council for their support, certainly this isn't a topic that council would normally get involved in or any municipal government, but I think it is time that we came together and I can tell you that support from City Hall and from council has been phenomenal."
Members from local mental health organizations, the school boards and members of city council will be present. Shapton believes the community needs to stand together to address this problem.
"This will not be one individual that fixes this problem. It's going to be our community that rallies around it to really understand and become educated on this very difficult subject."
The meeting will take place tonight (Thursday May 26th) at the Goff Hall starting at 7 p.m.
