The Tavistock Braves and Woodstock Navy Vets are enjoying a resurgence this year as the teams battle it out for first place in the PJHL with Ayr.
TAVISTOCK - The Tavistock Braves are enjoying a hot start to the PJHL season.
They have only lost 1 game in regulation this year and have been battling for first place with Woodstock and Ayr all season. General Manager Jordan Zehr says they have developed a nice little Oxford County rivalry with Woodstock this year as both teams enjoy a resurgence in the PJHL.
"Us and Woodstock are kind of in the same boat, in which we had team last year that finished a little bit lower in the standings then we both would have liked but heading into this year we both felt that this would be a big year for both of us to make a push and that is what we are both doing right now."
Zehr says the team actually started to hit their stride in the second half of last season and the players are really starting to gel with the coaching staff.
"We attribute a lot of our success this year to just building off the end of the year we had last year, we feel that after Christmas we were kind of coming into our own and then this year we had a lot more familiarity there with the coaches systems and we had 14 returning players and we were able to kind of pick up where we left off last year."
The Braves are home to Delhi this evening and then head to Burford tomorrow night for a pair of weekend games.
