The Braves spent too many minutes in the box, resulting in a loss on home ice last night.
TAVISTOCK - It was a first taste of what is to come. The Tavistock Braves left their home pad with a sour taste after taking a 7-2 loss in game 1 of the Schmalz Cup South Conference quarter-final against the Glanbrook Rangers.
The Braves just came off a hard fought match up against previous Schmalz Cup winning Ayr Centennials to capture the Doherty Division.
General Manager Jordan Zehr says that may have something to do with last night's efforts.
"We came out of the gate flat, and maybe had a bit of a hangover from Sunday going from such a high to have to turn around in a quick period of time, we just weren't focused and prepared to go and the score definitely shows that."
Glanbrook has been referred to as a fast a furious team with fierce puck skills, the team lived up to their reputation in Tavistock territory.
The Rangers took an early lead in last night's game, it wasn't until the final period that Tavistock put one in the net. Uncharacteristically, the Braves suffered a lot of minutes in the penalty box, giving Glanbrook the advantage, which they capitalized on.
Zehr says his main concern moving forward is Glanbrook's power play.
"The main thing with that team is to stay out of the penalty box, their power play has been the best all year and last night we saw why."
The Brave's won't have home ice advantage again until Sunday's matinee game.
