EMBRO - The 82nd Embro Highland Games will return next month.
The Highland Games will be back in Embro after hosting last year's event in Woodstock.
Committee member of the Embro Highland Games, Gord MacKay says they received a great response, especially from the younger crowd.
"I think we've got more response and more younger people involved this year. And I think, maybe, it was good to move it away for a year and then bring it back, it kind of wakes people up and brings people on board."
Fellow committee member Alan Normand says there are some new events scheduled this year, including the Stubbe’s Redi-Mix Truck Pull
"This is a community event, a first time to pull a Redi-Mix cement truck with all members of the community. This is going to be around 4 o'clock in the afternoon to give the heavy events guys and tug of war guys a chance to join in as well, but we're hoping to have a long rope and we'll see how that pulls with the community. We're also having the community Scottish Country dance, which is going to be taught in the main hall from 10 o'clock until 12pm and then we're hoping to have community involvement, anyone that wants to do it out on the main field at 12:30pm at the main opening ceremonies. We're really looking forward to that, that's a first for us as well, really get some community involvement."
Among the other new events include the Ingersoll Pipe Band leading the Clan Parade and a Scottish Tea Room. Normand adds returning acts like Allison Lupton, Ian Bell & James Stephens will be on hand, along with popular attractions like the Scottish Horse, Cattle and Sheep exhibits.
Tickets cost $20.00 for adults, $10.00 for people ages 13 to 17 years-old and it is free for children 12 years and under.
The gates open at 7:00am.
The Highland Games is at the Embro Zorra Community Centre on July 1st.
