Toyota announced today they are postponing the planned reopening of manufacturing operations in Cambridge and Woodstock until May 11. Originally they were scheduled to start on Monday May 4.
WOODSTOCK - Toyota workers in Cambridge and Woodstock will not heading back to work next week after all.
The Company is postponing the planned reopening of it's manufacturing operations until May 11th. TMMC plants were originally scheduled to reopen next Monday May 4.
Already several employee's have been called back to make sure the plant remains operational and clean. Several employees at the plant in Woodstock had reached out to Heart FM to express their concerns about going back to work so early.
In an email to Heart FM Manager of Corporate Communications Michael Bouliane explains why they are delaying the opening of the plants.
"Based on an extensive review with our supplier and logistics network, Toyota will postpone its ramp up of its North American manufacturing operations from the week of May 4 to the week of May 11. As previously stated, Toyota intends to gradually resume its manufacturing operations in compliance with all federal, provincial and municipal regulations and guidelines. The health and safety of our employees and communities remains our top priority, and we have implemented new protocols at all of our North American manufacturing plants to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to follow the guidance of health authorities and monitor vehicle demand as we carefully ramp up production."
The plants have been shut down since March 19th. During the pandemic, three employees at the Toyota plants in our region have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Toyota employs over 8,000 people in our region.
