TILLSONBURG - Oxford County has agreed to move forward with a partnership with Norwich Township and Tillsonburg to construct a new section of the Trans Canada Trail.
Before any ground can be broke the town of Tillsonburg will host a public consultation meeting on September 14th. The Township of Norwich has already hosted their meeting and given their support to the project however Tillsonburg will not officially give their support until after the September 14th meeting. Tillsonburg Mayor Stephen Molnar tells Heart FM it is crucial to have these meetings and listen to the people before making a decision.
" Your talking about neighbouring properties and ensuring they don't have any major issues, this is all about the greater good, however you want to make sure you get this done right the first time."
If approved the new trail would link the Trans Canada Trail from Tillsonburg to Norfolk County. It is expected to cost roughly $870,000 to build the connect the trails and $500,000 in funding from the TCT and the Pan Am Games Legacy Fund has been secured for the project. Molnar says it could also provide a nice little economic boost to the community.
"And it's happening in other areas, it's happening to a moderate point in ours with culinary adventures, cycling tourism, and I think it is part of great new initiative and I think Oxford County and leading communities like Tillsonburg intend to be a part of it."
