One man got a taste of what it's like to be the Mayor of Woodstock for a day after winning an auction at a fundraiser.
WOODSTOCK - A man from Woodstock got the chance to see what it would be like to be Mayor for the day.
David Walsh served as the honorary Mayor after winning a bid for the honour at a fundraiser for the Roch Carrier French Immersion School. Walsh tells Heart FM the fundraiser was to help pay for an outside classroom or a green classroom for the school.
"It's a great cause the kids get to go outside and have some education outside in the beautiful sun with a beautiful breeze and Trevor had put up himself with the Mayor for a day at the auction, so I started bidding, another lady starting bidding and I won. So I got into the politics the old fashioned way - I paid my way in! Just joking."
Walsh says he had a great time as the honorary Mayor and got a chance to see some of the work Trevor Birtch does every day.
"We started out the day going over the agenda for the upcoming council meeting, we made a quick stop at City Hall, Trevor introduced me to some people working there, we had I guess this is sort of my first radio interview, and we went to Museum Square to talk with some activists about the health care budget cuts."
