INGERSOLL - Unifor Local 88 is hosting a solidarity march and rally on Friday for striking workers at the GM Cami Assembly plant.
They will be marching from the farthest gates on Ingersoll Street to converge at the South Lawn. Several guest speakers are lined up including Unifor National President Jerry Dias, Canadian Labour Council President Hassan Yussuff, Ontario Federation of Labour President Chris Buckley, Local 88 President Dan Borthwickand Local 88 Plant Chair Unit 1Mike Van Boekel.
Everyone is invited to the rally including Local 88 members, politicians, the media and the general public.
The march starts at 1 p.m. and is approximately 1 km long. The speakers will talk from 2 to 3 p.m.
Unifor members walked out on September 17th as negotiators worked to have G-M designate the plant as the lead producer of the Equinox.
The sides have been bargaining, however we have not had any updates since Monday when it was reported the two sides were talking but are still far apart on key issues.
