The annual fundraiser returns to the Staples parking lot to help students reach their full potential.
WOODSTOCK - The public is invited to help stuff a bus for the United Way.
Providing students with essential school supplies is the reason for the annual fundraiser. Campaign Coordinator for the United Way Oxford, Jennifer Belleth, explains how stuffing the bus goes to help those living in the county. "We have been doing this for several years. We provided over 325 backpacks last year to students in Oxford County. There's lots of different programs around the community that are doing this as well but we really hope as United Way of Oxford that we can really start to collaborate with other organization to tackle this even further, and help meet the need for even more parents."
The annual tradition returns to the Woodstock Staples parking lot and Belleth give an overview on how the event will be broken down. "People have the opportunity to come and bring school supplies and then we literally load them on the bus. It just allows the opportunity for resources for the backpacks to be collected, and then we go about our part of the project by putting backpacks together for individual students that are involved with the Thames Valley and Catholic District School Boards."
The Thames Valley District School Board indicates what age of students need the supplies, and then the United Way of Oxford puts those backpacks together. "It is just constantly about the awareness that if someone is needing that backpack they let somebody at their school know to allow the children to arrive already with their supplies on their back the first day," says Belleth.
The event is happening August 29th from 9-2pm and anything school related can be donated from pencils to backpacks.
Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles will also be on display for kids all for a good cause.
