WOODSTOCK - About 100 people are expected to gather in Southside Park this weekend for the annual Walk for Lupus.
It's happening this Saturday and all of the proceeds will be going to Lupus Ontario for research, education, and support.
Jan Ropp is one of the organizers of the Woodstock event. She says when you have Lupus, your body is unable to tell the difference between intruders and your immune system.
"When there are no intruders there for our body to fight, it turns on our healthy organs. It affects things like your heart, your liver, your lungs, your kidney, your skin, and it can even affect your brain."
She says it could also take an average of six years before you receive a Lupus diagnosis.
"They call it the disease of 1,000 faces because we're all different. I might have a set of symptoms and Joyce (Watson) might have something different, so it's really hard to diagnose because of all those things."
Registration for the Walk for Lupus will get underway at 10:00 a.m. at the Southside Park Pavilion, and the walk itself should begin at 11:00 a.m.. They will also have door prizes, raffle prizes, and a 50/50 draw. Participants will be able to enjoy coffee and cupcakes as well.
Jan Ropp stopped by the Heart FM studio with Joyce Watson, another organizer of the Woodstock event, to chat with Dan and Marcie on Monday May 27th. You can listen to the full interview below:
