"He helped out in so many ways...he just loved being at the arena."
WOODSTOCK - A man who dedicated many hours to Woodstock Minor Hockey will get his rightful place on the Woodstock Sports Wall of Fame.
Alf Langdon will be inducted with several others on October 29th at Goff Hall in the Woodstock and District Community Complex. Langdon volunteered with Woodstock Minor Hockey since his son was in Novice and did so right up until his passing at the age of 60. His daughter Sue Ann Marshall tells Heart FM it means a lot to the family to see his picture go up on the Wall of Fame.
"I know I can speak for the rest of my family in saying it is a great honour and I think that it is very well deserved and long overdue for the work that he has done and the time he has put in."
Langdon is described as selfless and caring and served just about every role with Woodstock Minor Hockey from President to Equipment Manager.
"Well my dad was involved in hockey for many years. He started when my brother was in Novice and he took on several roles throughout his years of involvement, not only with the executive as vice president and president for several years, he looked after timekeepers for awhile, and he was the equipment manager right up until his passing 5 years ago. He helped out in so many ways - fundraising - and he just loved being at the arena. He dressed up at Christmas as an elf to give out candy canes to the peanut group. As far as having his picture on the wall, he was a very modest man. He himself would probably say he was not deserving, but it's such a great honour to have everything he has done acknowledged by the city in front of his peers, friends, and family."
The inductees will be unveiled at a special ceremony on October 29th at Goff Hall in the Woodstock and District Community Complex.
EDITORS NOTE: Heart FM has been profiling all of the inductees into the Sports Wall of Fame this year and so far we have done features on Kelly Paton, Alf Langdon and The Naval Association with more features to come.
