A reminder to residents to not flush paper towels or wipes down the toilet.
WOODSTOCK/OXFORD COUNTY - The City of Woodstock and Oxford County are reminding residents to be cautious of what you are flushing down the toilet.
During the pandemic, more people are flushing, paper towel, baby wipes and wet wipes. According the City, flushing a towel or a wipe can cost a resident hundreds of dollars to unblock or repair their sanitary service.
Even products labelled "flushable" can cause problems.
Oxford County has also issued a similar message:
"Also, with news reports of people stockpiling toilet paper, Oxford County reminds people that “flushable” wipes products are not in fact flushable and cost millions of dollars in damage each year to municipal wastewater systems. Please dispose of these wipes in the garbage, not in the toilet."
Oxford County even took an official stance on this in February, before the pandemic.
