Officers charged 75 drivers for speeding, not wearing a seat belt and following too close during a two day traffic blitz.
OXFORD COUNTY - West Region OPP charged 75 drivers during a two day traffic blitz in the Counties of Chatham, Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford and Wellington.
Most of the vehicles charged were Commercial Vehicles, however they did issue one ticket to a bus driver for following to close.
Members from the OPP's Aviation Service, London Highway Safety Division, Field Support Bureau, and Communications and Technology Services Bureau assisted in the blitz. Officers charged 14 passenger vehicle drivers for speeding and 30 commercial vehicle drivers for following too close.
In 2019, West Region had a 94 percent increase in fatal motor vehicle collisions involving Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) compared to 2018. 35 people died in CMV-related collisions last year compared to 18 fatalities in 2018.
The OPP will continue its enforcement of road safety throughout the region. Road safety is everyone's responsibility and the police need all drivers to take that responsibility seriously.
