17 winners won a Red Cross emergency survival kit in the first contest from Oxford71Hours.ca
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford72Hours.ca has announced winners in each township for their first contest.
To recognize Emergency Preparedness Week residents who visited the site were asked a series of questions, and from those respondents multiple winners from each township were awarded prizes. Supervisor of Emergency Management for Oxford County, Diane Marshall, spoke with Heart FM about the contest and how more are set to follow: "Part of our launch was to encourage people to go online and to look at the resources that we have made available to the public. In doing that you were able to enter your name in a draw and each of our municipalities in Oxford County were giving away two Emergency Survival Kits that were provided by the our local Red Cross."
Marshall is very pleased on how the public has used this website to spread the word on how to act in an emergency situation. "We were really pleased with the response that we received from residents in Oxford County. When we launched our website had over 1 200 views to the website in the first 12 days so that is pretty phenomenal. We know that there is a lot of interest in the community about disaster planning."
Marshall explains how the website also impacts certain groups of people, "It is an online resource that is filled with information that will help you prepare for any type of disaster that might take place here in Oxford County. We also have information that is important to people living with special needs and disabilities - so just some tools and checklists that will help them be better prepared." Marshall also commented that the reasoning behind the 72hrs timeline is to give responders the necessary time to reach you if a disaster strikes.
To continue the popularity of the website Marshall stated that more contests will follow; just visit Oxford72Hours.ca
