The fire department has come a long way from the horse and cart system 135 years ago.
The Woodstock Fire Department is celebrating a major milestone today.
Today is their 135 anniversary of serving the community of Woodstock. Woodstock Fire Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods tells Heart FM about the service they provide to the community.
"Very vital obviously, we respond to a number of things including fires, as well as motor vehicle collisions and medical calls as well - we have been integral in the City for 135 years."
Woods says a lot has changed in 135 years, however one thing has remained the same and that is their goal to serve the public.
"In 1881 the Fire Hall was located at the rear of Town Hall and our equipment consisted of a horse, a fire cart, and a driver who was on call to answer calls at any time and since then we have grown to a 65 compliment department, with two full time halls running 24 hours a day 7 days a week."
In honour of the milestone they have announced a new slogan which is "Our Family Helping Your Family since 1881”. Woods tells Heart FM why they chose that slogan.
"Here at the Fire Department we really are a family, we work together, we live together and we have each other's back and our family is there to protect your family."
