$350,000 of OLG slot money donated to Woodstock Hospital.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock and the Ontario Lottery Group have partnered to donate this year's installment to the Woodstock Hospital Capital Campaign.
The donation comes as a part of a 20-year pledge the City of Woodstock made in 2002 as the construction of the new hospital began. The pledge originally began at $200,000, but was ammended in July of that year, to increase to its current value. Woodstock Hospital President and CEO Natasa Veljovic says this years $350,000 donation, "Allows our hospital to continue to deliver the highest quality services to our patients and their families." The donation also raises the city's overall contribution to 4.2 million dollars.
The donation comes from the Slot Machine Reserve Fund, a fund that stores part of the proceeds of hosting the OLG Slots in Woodstock. Mayor Pat Sobeski says the donation comprised of OLG funds is beneficial because it eliminates the need for a rise in taxes, and compliments the efforts made by citizens in fundraising for the new hospital.
Mayor Sobeski says the donation was a "Good opportunity to put the slot money to a good use in the community."
The cheque presentation was made to the Woodstock Hospital Board of Trust on Tuesday. November 25th.
