The Woodstock Police Service is preparing for another big year in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service has presented a proposed operating budget to City Council.
They looking for just over $14,062,252 for 2018, which is 3.96 percent higher when compared to last year.
60 percent of that would go towards law enforcement; including their salaries, benefits, pensions and training.
Chief Bill Renton says officers will have to go through expensive training practices, with the upcoming legalization of marijuana.
"It's going to be a very interesting way to deal with impaired driving because we're so used to having a breathalyzer; having the ability to blow into the machine and there it is, if you're over the limit you're done."
Renton says they're also planning on finishing their building addition this year.
"Hopefully we will get the building addition all done. We're about 90 percent there; I'd like to get it done with a few touches and have an open house for the public to have a look at it."
Renton also presented some last year's crime statistics to council last night. The service received 17,505 calls for service and conducted over 2,539 investigations into criminal and drug offences.
