It's the long weekend, and we know what that means - Woodstock Police will be out performing R.I.D.E. checks throughout the city.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police will be out in full force this long weekend with a focus on public safety.
They are going to be setting up roaming R.I.D.E checks throughout the Friendly City. Police will be targeting impaired drivers, and that includes drivers who are drinking alcohol or impaired by drugs. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen tells Heart FM they are asking the public to not tweet out the location of R.I.D.E checks.
"I do question why people would do that; if they are interested in public safety at all they wouldn't. I mean, if people are driving impaired we want to get them off the road as quickly as possible. So if people are tweeting out our locations it's going to get people to take different routes, that being said one thing we do with our R.I.D.E programs, if we set up in one area people may go through and tweet but we will be setting up all over the city."
VanLeeuwen says the Police are asking you to plan ahead and choose a safe ride home.
How much is too much?
- Alcohol affects everyone differently
- Weight, gender, age and the type of drink can affect the alcohol level in your body
- Alcohol remains in your body long after you stop drinking, and for women even longer than men
If you are drinking alcohol this weekend remember;
- Plan ahead and choose a safe ride home
- If you are under the age of 22 you can not have any alcohol in your body while driving
- Impaired Driving doesn't require alcohol
- Don't drive high
- Your vehicle doesn't have to be moving to get arrested and charged with impaired driving
- Driving while impaired isn't just dangerous, it is expensive
