YMCA Upgrades Nearly Paid Off

Woodstock's YMCA building upgrades are almost completely paid for. The organization gave their annual update to City Council Thursday and told councillors they paid off their $500,000 after just one year. CEO Shaun Elliott received the third of five cheques from the City Thursday night. "When they made the half a million dollar donation, it was a $100,000 for five years so it was awfully nice to continue to receive that pledge payment". The City presented Elliot with the third of five $100,000 cheques. That money comes from the city's cut of OLG slot machine revenues. During his presentation to council, Elliott outlined some of their highlights from the year. "Particularly highlighting that we are spending about $310,000 annually to help low income folks and families participate in our programs and also updating on a wonderful program we have in our schools with literacy and that is with some funding from the United Way as well". Funding for the $3 million YMCA upgrade was divided up between the City, organization and the provincial and federal governments.
