In the wake of a number of youth suicides in the past couple of months in Oxford County a special meeting is taking place for parents and caregivers.
WOODSTOCK - Parents, caregivers, service providers and educators are invited to a special meeting about youth suicide in Woodstock.
It will be conducted by a number of local community and facilitated by the Centre for Organizational Effectiveness. The meeting was brought on in light of a number of youth suicides in the community in the span of a couple of months. Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford Mike McMahon tells Heart FM that parents are frozen by this type of news in our community.
"We want to help adults in the community to formulate the questions they want to ask, the questions sometimes it is hard to figure out what to ask children about what they have heard and then to also learn from each other in the room about how we can respond to some of these questions we are getting from our children. The news of this type of tragedy travels very quickly and through social media we know that families are experiencing anxiety about how to discuss these events in their own community with their other family members and with other children in their family."
The meeting will take place on Monday May 16th at the Calvary Church from 7 to 9 pm. Registration is appreciated so organizers can plan for refreshments and set up. Child care and transportation services are also available. Please register by calling 519-539-0463 ext. 299 or email: info@cfoe.ca
