A 63 year old woman has died after she was hit by a mini-van in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Stratford.
STRATFORD - A 63 year old woman has died after a hit and run at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Stratford.
Police say the woman was walking in the parking lot when she was hit by white minivan on Sunday morning. The woman was rushed to the hospital with serious life threatening injuries and has since passed away. She has been identified as 63 year old Hedwig Sophia Harris, who was commonly known as Evelyn in the community. The family of Evelyn Harris has been notified of her death and the police wish to express their condolences to them, for their loss.
The driver of the mini van drove away from the scene after hitting the woman turning left onto C.H. Meier Boulevard to go north on Devon Street.
With the assistance of the public, the police were able to identify the vehicle as a white Volkswagen Routan minivan. The female driver of the Volkswagen later turned herself into police at 4:30 p.m. The driver was arrested and interviewed by police and she was later released from custody after being charged with the Criminal Code Offence of Accident Resulting in Death with a court date of June 17, 2019. At this time the police are only identifying the female driver as a 30 year old resident of the City of Stratford.
