Woodstock Police have some reminders for kids, parents, homeowners, and motorists ahead of Halloween tomorrow.

WOODSTOCK - It's the weekend lots of families have been waiting for!

Halloween is tomorrow and it's the first time it's on a Saturday since 2020. This means lots of trick-or-treaters will hit the streets earlier and possibly stay out later. With Daylight Saving Time ending early Sunday morning, it's also been getting dark out earlier lately.

Pritpal Thind, the Media Relations and Community Service Officer with the Woodstock Police Service, says drivers should be extra vigilant that evening and parents should have safety in mind while prepping their kids costumes.

"Make sure the costumes are not too loose for a trip hazard and make sure there is some sort of a reflection whether it's a glowstick, a flashlight, or a brighter colour so it's easier for motorists to see."

Trick-or-treaters should stick to the sidewalks and not run in between vehicles, even those parked on the side of the road. They should also be respectful of others property while they're out and about.

Homeowners handing out candy should make sure their homes don't have any tripping hazards to prevent injuries.

Constable Thind says younger kids should be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating, and older kids should have a serious talk with their parents before going out by themselves.

"Parents should know their whereabouts, who they're going with, how long they will be gone and what areas will be visiting. They also need to know what to do if people get separated in the group, where to meet up and who they should call."

Thind suggests having a photo of everyone in your group, so you can share it with police if someone goes missing.

Trick-or-treaters should wait until they get home before diving into their candy, making sure a parent or another responsible adult has the opportunity to look it over before hand.

With Halloween being on a Saturday, lots of adults might also spend the evening at a local bar or a party. If you do plan on drinking, Constable Thind says you should make sure you have a safe ride home ahead of time.

Constable Pritpal Thind stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday, October 28th. You can listen to the full interview below:
