The WFD is reminding everyone to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when the clocks go back on Sunday.

WOODSTOCK - The clocks will fall back one hour this weekend.

Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1st, so the time will jump backwards to 1:00 a.m..

The Woodstock Fire Department (WFD) if reminding everyone to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms while they're updating the clocks in their home. Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says you should change the batteries and check the manufacturer date.

"All alarms need to be replaced every 10 years with the same level that they already have. So if they are battery operated they should be replaced with battery operated, if they are hardwired they should be replaced with hardwired, and if they are hardwired with strobes replace with hardwired with strobes."

Woods says checking your alarms may be a simple habit, but it could be a matter life and death.

"As long as they are within the 10 year window and the batteries are fresh and working, most of our things happen between midnight and 6:00 a.m. when you're asleep, so we know you'll have that extra time to get out safely."

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have to be located on every level of the home and outside the sleeping areas.

Woods also stresses the importance of having a home escape plan, so your family knows what to do in an emergency situation.
