Recent data shows that Oxford County residents are in compliance with about 94 percent of the Future Oxford goals.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Future Oxford volunteer committee continues to do a lot of work behind the scenes to make the County thrive in the future.
The main pillars for Future Oxford is renewable energy, zero waste and smart energy. Board Member Bryan Smith says the data shows that local residents are buying into the Future Oxford plan.
"We have significant data to show that people in Oxford County are doing 94% of the Future Oxford goals. The 6 percent indifference is perhaps that some of those things are really specific and did get done and perhaps some of the things were written a little vaguely and it would make it hard to track if it did get done. It does show a really strong sense from the people in Oxford County who want to make this a better place to live for future generations."
One thing Smith is excited about is a pilot project happening in Tavistock at a former Mill, that is now a residential property.
"Where they are going to install green cone digesters, to take all that kitchen waste, including the fats, the meats and put them some place where they will be liquefied and then actually fortify the soil around them."
Recently the board welcomed 6 new members of varying ages and backgrounds. The new members are:
- Sam Coghlan, Zorra Township
- Kayla Doan, Norwich Township
- Whisper Gardiner, South-West Oxford Township
- Samantha Haverkamp, Woodstock
- Heather McDowell, East Zorra-Tavistock Township
- Al Lauzon, Ingersoll
