Premier Ford says the Province will be making an announcement on an accelerated phase 2 shortly. Waterloo Region could be held back, but the decision will be up to the Local Medical Officer of Health.
Ontario is considering moving the Province into phase 2 ahead of the July 2 target date.
The Province has already hit the threshold to move into phase two with case counts, hospitalizations and vaccination targets.
Premier Doug Ford said an announcement about an early start to phase 2 is coming very soon.
He was also asked about the Waterloo Region, which is the biggest Delta hot spot in the Province right now. Ford says they're providing the region with more vaccine supplies and doing everything they can to help them right now. A large chunk of the cases are coming from the regions homeless population. Health officials are now working to get those people vaccinated as quickly as possible with pop up clinics on site.
Ford states the decision to move into Phase 2 for Waterloo Region will ultimately be up to the local Medical Officer of Health and Waterloo Region Public Health.
