UPDATE: James St. is back open and the residents have returned to the buildings. We're expecting an update shortly from the Fire Dept. An early morning fire has part of James Street closed at this time. Woodstock police say at 4:44 am this morning they received a report of a fire at Goff Towers. When the police, fire and EMS arrived, they discovered smoke coming from a fifth floor apartment. The fire was quickly contained to a bedroom and the residents were evacuated from the building. Two occupants and several responding officers were treated for smoke inhalation. Police say when they arrived, there was no smoke detector sounding in the apartment. The investigation is continuing and there is no word on what may have caused the fire. James Street is closed between Stafford Street and Teeple Street.
