The Woodstock Police Service has taken multiple people into custody, laid many charges and seized drugs, cash, and drug paraphernalia.
WOODSTOCK - Multiple complaints about drug use in Woodstock have led to charges.
The Woodstock Police have been getting lots of calls regarding the use and trafficking of drugs, mostly in the downtown core. The first set of arrests took place in the area of Dundas Street and Marlboro Street on Thursday, July 2nd, as the Street Crime Unit took a 37-year-old man, along with a 52-year-old man, into custody. The 37-year-old is facing charges of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, two counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine and Fentanyl, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and two counts of Failure to Comply with a Probation Order, while the 52-year-old was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine. As a result of the arrests, the police seized approximately 1.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 12.6 grams of suspected fentanyl, which represents 126 potentially lethal doses, $1,067.25 in Canadian currency, and a digital scale.
Then, on Friday, July 10th, members of the Street Crime Unit, along with Uniform Patrol, made several arrests in the downtown core after complaints about open-air drug use. Those arrested were alleged to have had Schedule I substances. During these arrests, several items were seized, including glass pipes and foil.
Next, members of Uniform Patrol were doing checks at businesses on Sunday, July 12th, in the downtown core when they saw a group of people loitering on private property. A male who was known to police was arrested on an outstanding warrant held by another police service. There was a search, and it turned up approximately 8.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, which would represent an estimated 89 potentially lethal doses. A 33-year-old man was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Fentanyl, and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.
Lastly, on Monday, July 13th, a resident handed in property they had found downtown. The property included approximately 7.6 grams of suspected fentanyl, which could have turned into 76 potentially lethal doses, along with a folding knife.
