2 families were given the keys for their new homes on Main St. in Woodstock
WOODSTOCK - It has been a big day for Habitat for Humanity Heartland.
After months of volunteers helped plan, build, and complete the project, the Baw and Lusk family have two new homes to move into. Warden of Oxford County, David Mayberry, explains what type of gift this is to a family in the city. "It is fitting that just less than a month to Christmas they would actually receive one the greatest Christmas gifts you will ever get and that is a place to call your own. It will mean a lot to the families, and it means a lot to the whole community." The two homes are located on Main Street in Woodstock and even members of Woodstock City Council joined in over the summer to help complete the build. MPP of Oxford Ernie Hardeman couldn't thank the organization enough for making our community a great place to live.
Mayor of Woodstock, Trevor Birtch, would like to thank the volunteers who saw this project through. "I look at all of the citizens of Woodstock and the quality of life that we enjoy. It's wonderful for all of the volunteers that were able to participate and come and help on the work crews. I stopped by many different times to encourage some of the crews, so from my heart to yours thank you for everything that the City of Woodstock does." The build was planned to have been completed earlier in the year but was pushed back after setbacks.
Warden Mayberry was overwhelmed to see the communities support on this project. "This is what it means to be community, we can build community by building up each other and that is really what it is all about is helping someone get one step ahead. As pointed out they are actually going to do most of the hard work by paying off the loan and paying for the homes. It is really about us coming together and knowing that we are stronger together, that is the motto of the county." Dozens braved the weather this morning to attend the special ceremony.
