Big Lix Catering can boast to having the best chili in Woodstock after winning the annual South Gate Chili Cook Off.
WOODSTOCK - Big Lix's Catering was the big winner at the annual South Gate Centre's Chili Cook off this year.
Five local chefs and restaurants competed at the event today. Big Lix's won the judges award and the people's choice award.
Afternoon Drive Host Dan Henry was lucky enough to be a judge this year and he describes the winning chili.
"Well it had a sweetness to it, the consistency was great, it had zip, it had a little zip that the others didn't have, they were all great chili's but the one from Big Lix was just a little bit better than all the rest."
All of the proceeds from today will benefit South Gate's programs and services for seniors. Operations Manager Felise Jones says they are still tallying up the total numbers.
"Well the numbers are definitely up from last year, the event was very well received, people looked very excited and really seem to be enjoying the chili as well."
The annual event used to follow the Prediction Breakfast on Groundhog Day. Jones explains why they decided to change the date this year.
"We find restaurants on Thursdays and Fridays tend to be busier so we opted to go with Tuesday, which is a slower time and gives us an opportunity to have more competitors come and participate."
