Breakfast on the Farm Returns

Enjoy a farm fresh breakfast and see what a real working farm in Oxford County is like during Breakfast on the Farm.

If you've wondered what happens on a real Ontario farm, now is your chance to find out in person.

Breakfast on the Farm is returning and Amy Matheson, Communications Administrator for the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture and member of the Steering Committee for Breakfast on the Farm, says you'll leave with a real understanding of how food gets from the farm to your plate.

"Essentially what we do is we invite our non-farming urban neighbours for a tour of the farm, a complimentary breakfast thanks to our generous sponsors the Egg Farmers of Ontario, Dairy Farmers of Ontario and they come, they have breakfast and they get to see what a real working farm is like."

Matheson has been helping out with this event for years now, and she says there is one particular memory that really stands out involving a little girl learning how milk made it from the cow to her table.

"One of the volunteers was explaining, this is the cow, this is where the milk goes after it leaves the cow, and then it ends up in your cereal bowl and her eyes got as big as dinner plates. She couldn't believe that that was the process because as far as she was concerned milk came from the grocery store."

The farm fresh breakfast is geared to satisfy with eggs, sausage, pancakes with Ontario maple syrup, fruit, and chocolate milk. This year the Veldale Farm will be hosting Breakfast on the Farm. They are just off the 401 between Woodstock and Oxford Centre (545415 Pattullo Avenue).

This is a free event on Saturday, June 11 but because it is so popular you must register ahead of time. Other farmers from the area are also encouraged to volunteer and make sure the day goes off without a hitch.

Breakfast starts at 9 a.m.
