Busy St. Paddy's Day for Woodstock Police

Woodstock Police responded to 65 calls for service on St. Paddy's day, mostly for public intoxication.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police were rather busy on St. Paddy's day responding to 65 calls for service.

No major incidents were reported with most of the calls dealing with people celebrating a little too hard on Saturday night. Most of the calls were for public intoxication and EMS was brought in to help a few people who had too much to drink. They were taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they did have to deal with some impaired drivers.

"We had an increase in impaired calls, so we had people witness suspected impaired drivers and called into the police department so we to thank the public for doing that. A couple of them were unfounded but we did arrest one 24 year old woman for impaired driving thanks to the tip from the public."

The woman was three times over the legal limit. Police also set up four RIDE programs throughout the Friendly City on Saturday night.

Police also arrested a 23 year old Guelph man who they caught red handed trying to steal a vehicle. They also arrested a 25 year old Beachville man who came into the station late Saturday night asking if their was a warrant out for his arrest. It turns out there was and the man was taken into custody.
