OXFORD COUNTY - The Children's Aid Society of Oxford County had a virtual recognition ceremony on Thursday.
It's National volunteer week and the local CAS wanted to honour those who had achieved a milestone in volunteer service. Executive Director Tina Diamond says volunteers play an crucial role in what they do.
"Our volunteers continue to support programs both in person and virtually. Our volunteers help us to bring our vision of safe children and youth, strong families, and caring communities to life. We are appreciative of their dedication to those we work with and their commitment to our larger community throughout the year, but particularly during National Volunteer Week."
Volunteers for CAS Oxford help out in a variety of ways. Whether it is delivering services to children, youth and families as volunteer drivers or by facilitating programming at the Open Door locations in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
The volunteers celebrating milestones this year are:
Marg, a volunteer driver who has fifteen years of service, and Brad and Brian, who are also volunteer drivers each with five years of service.
Bill Taplay was recognized with the Isabel Scott Memorial Volunteer Service Award. This award started in 1982 for dedication and outstanding contribution and was provided to the agency by the late Isabel Scott.
Bill, who is a former Board Member with the Society, has been instrumental in the success of the Cribs for Kids campaign; an initiative which ensures that all families are able to provide a safe sleeping space for their infants.
Diamond says they are always looking for new volunteers to join the team.
"The last year has been especially trying for children, youth, and families. We are working with our community partners, and our volunteers, to ensure that help is available. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing commitment of our volunteers."
